Thank you for these comments. This experience has taught us a huge amount about how to serve better our clients with disabilities. We now have a disabilities questionnaire to help clients tell us about their requirements in detail (including accurate wheelchair dimensions when relevant), and in the autumn of 2014 we will carry out a disabilities audit on a selection of villas.
I welcome the opportunity to respond to the points raised here. The elevator was working properly. The problem was that its door was designed to be manually operated. As soon as we recognised that this caused you a problem, we called a technician to install an automated opening mechanism. The parts for this upgrade took some days to arrive and the issue was then resolved to your satisfaction. Although we did not receive accurate dimensions of your wheelchair before your arrival, we procured a narrower chair for you to move more easily around the house. In addition, within days of your arrival, we organised for a bathroom to be adapted to your requirements.
The cook at Crossing has received continuously excellent reviews from the many clients who have used her services, and we were very sorry and surprised to hear that you did not enjoy her cooking. A few insects are to be expected in the Mediterranean and we reviewed the situation with you, concluding that there was not an unacceptable amount of insect life. No other client has complained of insects at Crossing the Rock before or since your stay.
After three weeks of providing continuous support and assistance to you and your party we found your request for a very large refund to be unreasonable and after some discussion referred you to an excellent independent arbitration service, which you have decided not to make use of.
We are very sorry that you would advise against using our services as we feel strongly that we have gone the extra mile to deliver excellent service at every stage of our relationship with you.
I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed the villa and appreciated the excellent service. However, I'm very sorry to hear that you did not like the location. Santa Maria la Scala is a charming and very typical Sicilian fishing village, and we and most clients who have stayed there feel that Crossing the Rock's location on the edge of the village is one of its unique selling points.
