We regret to read about the part of the trail you encountered that has recently closed, and how it impacted the enjoyment of your holiday. We are concerned by your comments as we had directed you to a website in your holiday pack which had information about this path closure, the safe alternative around the closure, and also of other diversions currently on the trail. We regret to read that you had not spotted this in your holiday pack as it would have avoided this surprise on the day. We will seek to make the information we include in our holiday pack more explicit, and will pass on your comments to the National Trails team about the difficulty following the signposts for this alternate path, which they claim should be clearly marked on the ground for ease of navigation (i.e. suggesting they add "you are here" to their on-the-trail maps to help with navigating around the closure). We've been keeping a keen eye on the fires this season and getting in touch with walkers where a fire is set to actively interrupt their holiday, but we'll definitely keep your comment in mind going forward - a little positive "don't worry!" must go a long way to settle any concerns when there's smoke on the air.
