As a printer, I do understand colour. When choosing text colours within PDF documents that will potentially be used on domestic printers, choose colours with a reasonable black content, whether setting in CMYK or an actual PMS mix. (and not to be confused with web design that usually work in RGB)... Suggest you talk to your printer, not just your designer, for advice. Thank you for your positive response to my critique.
