Whilst I understand your position, unfortunately I think we have to disagree as we are not a charity nor do we have the deep pockets of our tax avoiding competitors who might offer free returns.Some companies, particularly those offering clothing etc can afford to offer free returns because it is built into the cost and trying something for size is more necessary for clothing. They offer free returns because the parcels are small and couriers charge by size/weight. Unfortunately this has the effect of encouraging people to think that returns are/should be cheap. With your log carrier, the measurements are clearly on the product page and therefore it should have been an easy task for you to assess the fit for your place before you ordered it. I think if we were to offer free/subsidised returns it would actually encourage fewer people to check the details before ordering. The collection charge we made (which as you state you couldn't find cheaper) is what it costs us to collect and have returned to us. This is separate to the costs of checking the item and putting it back into stock. Thus we already lose money on your return and to offer a cheaper option would mean losing more. Our returns rate is actually very low and this is the way we would like to keep it. Clothing companies run a returns rate of c30% and whilst there is an argument that says free returns would encourage more people to buy from us, it's not something we intend to risk at this point. Nonetheless, thank you for going us the opportunity to comment and I'm sorry you feel this way and felt it necessary to score us so lowly.
