Many thanks for your comments. We understand that extra costs are frustrating, especially when you're on a budget however there are legitimate reasons behind levvying these charges. The booking fee covers admin costs and prevents credit card charges being passed on to the customer. They are pretty standard these days, especially when booking holidays or concerts etc. The £20 charge for dogs is to cover any additional cleaner needed after departure - furr removal etc.

The £150 security deposit covers the property in the event of damage or extra cleaning. It is paid 8 weeks before arrival and refunded usually within a week of departure.  This delay gives owners/caretakers the chance to check over properties after guests have left. This too is a pretty common feature of booking holidays today. We do give the option of paying a non-refundable £18 waiver instead. This payment can be selected when booking online and changed at the time of balance payment if the guest so wishes.

Balance reminders are sent out a few days after the payment is due. If payment isn't received within a week we then call and write to the guests home address.

The split between the two payments is pretty equal. Some guests are so confident of leaving the property as they find it that they pay £150. We do understand that £150 is alot of money on top of holiday rent. This is where the £18 waiver kicks in. Acting like insurance, this payment allows holiday makers on a budget to secure a property.
