Hi Jakes, many thanks for taking the time to feedback to us, its much appreciated however I must respond accordingly.
We endeavour to supply a wealth of information about the route on our information so potential clients can make an informed choice before they book the trek. Once folk book we also send out detailed information about the itinerary, fitness required & preparation needed.
The Walkers Haute Route is a tough trek, just the name alone implies this "The High Route", trekking from Chamonix to Zermatt with our opening paragraph stating the trek is approximately 180km in length, the route crosses 11 high mountain passes with 12,000m of ascent & descent through France and Switzerland the Haute Route walk makes for a fabulous challenge over 10 sustained days of high altitude hiking.
We grade this trek 4 out of 5 & it is described as follows on our website & in the information send before & during the booking process:
GRADE 4 TOUGH: Walkers Haute Route: This is a very physically demanding trek which requires an excellent level of fitness and stamina for long mountain days. You need to have plenty of mountain walking experience & exercise on a regular basis. Each day the trek has continued and substantial height gain and decent of over + or -1500 m per day for a period of 10 days without a break. The terrain is difficult at times with steep & rocky ascents & descents.
We have on our website information on Fitness & Preparation & we also send this document as a PDF file to all those booked on our treks, see here: https://www.montblanctreks.com/trekking-grades-fitness-preparation
In the trek notes we give a description of each day with the overall height gain, descent & distance that will be undertaken. These notes can be downloaded from our 'Manage my Booking' platform & details of this are given when your booking has been made. We also send this information as a PDF document when enquiring about the trek & also once booked.
During the guided trek the guide each evening gives a detailed description of the following day & outlines the commitment needed, if clients or the guide feel this is too much of a challenge then options are given to miss that particular day & take public transport.
We feel that it cannot be clearer than this & it is the sole responsibility for anyone undertaking any of our treks to research throughly beforehand, read all the information available on our website & on the web in general & to make sure they are physically & mentally prepared for the challenge. If this is not the case the experience will be spoilt for themselves & anyone else within the group.
All this said many thanks for trekking with MBT, I was glad that you were able to finally make it over to the Alps this year after deferring your booking from season 2017.
Completed 2 separate tours with MBT. Knowledgeable and friendly guides in Joy, Alex and Sara. Accommodation great for the price and everything ran smoothly. Definitely recommend and would use again....

We were frustrated that we were routed through Randa on the 5th day, rather than staying high at the Europahut. The day by day travel itinerary that we were provided was out of date, and indicated...

Hi Dale, many thanks for taking the time to feedback to me, its much appreciated & helps us improve our provision for the future. Thank you for pointing out the error on the route card, The route card for the final day was amended last year when the route re-opended in August 2017 however for some reason the route card for the penultimate day hadn't been updated & this hadn't been picked up by any other client this summer. Apologies for any confusion caused by this.
On the penultimate day of the trek there are two route options from Grachen to Randa, via the Wanderweg, middle mountain route or Europaweg, high more challenging route, which isn't recommended in poor weather conditions due to the instability of the terrain & safety issues. When taking the lower route accommodation in Randa is more practical, however when taking the higher route & staying in Randa a descent is required at the end of the day back to the valley & the village of Randa.
With regard to accommodation in Randa verses the Europahutte, on our treks we offer two standards of accommodation, "comfort' & 'refuges' when booking on a comfort trek we use the best accommodations possible on the route hence the need to descend to Randa to stay in the 3* Matterhorn Golf Hotel. Although the Europahutte is more practical when doing the high route saving the descent to the valley, previous clients have not rated this refuge, due to facilities, cleanliness & food which is why this is only offered on the more basic refuges trek.
Its a case of practicality verses comfort & what emphasis clients put on this as its a personal choice & of course in future as a result of your feedback we will offer this as an option for the 'Comfort trek'. Its an odd one really & hard to get it right as if folk take the lower route on that day due to weather etc as similar thing would happen as they would then need to ascend to the refuge at the end of the day.
Thanks once again for trekking with MBT & for your feedback, its much appreciated.
WOW - what a trip!!!! Thank goodness we took the "guided" version because there were things and trails we would have likely missed. Our guide, Alex, was wonderful, motivating and super...
