The outgoing ferry at 09.00 was so packed that passengers loaded on last had no seats, many had to sit on the floor. The ferry back at 18.00 was not much better.

Sorry to hear you couldn't find a seat. The good news is that improvements are on the way with 55% more internal seats and two new passenger lounges being added to Red Falcon in time for Easter 2014.

Thank you for your feedback. We strive to be cheaper than our competitor and our route across the Solent is the longest. The cost per passenger/vehicle kilometer with Red Funnel is generally competitive with many UK & European short-sea routes, some of which are subsidised.
Fares are cheaper if you can book ahead and avoid the popular sailing times but we appreciate this is not always possible.
