We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback Sue, thank you. All documents including your daily route cards are available via our online 'manage my booking' system, (where you paid) and are available via your phone or any other device. We provide the route cards on waterproof paper to ensure they are foolproof for any bad weather and electronic device failure. There are many Apps available and using electronic devices in the mountains is becoming more popular, we suggest care for the obvious issues mentioned, alongside loss of signal - (often experienced in the remoter locations) plus many Apps are not perfectly comparable to the actual route distance/height gains on this trail. Bad weather options are provided on daily route cards and we also suggest weather apps to check regularly, we also welcome contact via our dedicated WhatApp line for any questions and advice whilst out on the trail, which many clients take advantage of. That said, we appreciate when clients choose the self guided service, they do so to be autonomous & self sufficient, with mountain & navigational experience being a pre-requisite for all trekkers. Great to hear you enjoyed the mountains, food, accommodations and speak highly of the bag transfer service, I'll be sure to pass on your kind words to the extended MBT team. Thanks for taking the time to feed back to us, glad to know our services took the hassle out of your Tour du Mont Blanc trek. The TMB is a hugely popular trek and attracts travellers from across the world, 90% are English speaking & the accommodation & bag transfer service providers have adapted to suit clients. Saying this I am sure they would have been delighted if you had conversed with them in their local language, I know they really appreciate that travellers make the effort to speak French or Italian. With regard to the daily route cards, we will check, however, these are written by us and we are UIMLA guides. The distances provided are calculated by Garmin, they also match with those given in the Cicerone published guide book. When I guide a group & folk are using all sorts of devises & hiking applications, at the end of each day the total distance, height gain & descent vary immensely. The data is calculated via GPS & if signal is lost for even a sort period of time (which happens often in the mountains) the tracking information can be very different. The estimated time given for each leg is based on Naismith's Rule, an average hiking speed of 1 hour to walk 5 km (3 mi) plus 1/2 hour to ascend 300 m (1000 ft), some folk are faster than this or others slower, after the first day you can then calculate your speed and adjust accordingly.
