Every client has access via an online booking forum where any individual can download and also email the daily route cards, invoice and itinerary documents and much more. Hi Natalie, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the accommodation, found your guide knowledgeable and that the luggage transfers worked flawlessly, although we’re sorry that some aspects of the guided trek weren’t what you had expected. Guiding arrangements vary considerably between different trekking destinations around the world. Our guided Tour du Mont Blanc groups operate with one qualified International Mountain Leader and a maximum of 10 clients. This is standard practice for this type of guided trek in the Alps and is a deliberately smaller group size than the maximum an International Mountain Leader is permitted to lead. A guided group trek is, by its nature, a collective experience. There will inevitably be differences in pace and ability within any group and the guide’s role is to manage those differences so that the group can safely complete the day’s itinerary together. Our guided treks aren’t designed to allow faster walkers to separate from the group and walk independently at their own preferred pace. Part of joining a group departure is accepting that, on occasion, this may mean adjusting your pace to that of the group. We are, however, concerned to hear that on the first day you felt it necessary to remain behind with another member of the group and ultimately carry their rucksack. Clients shouldn’t feel that they need to take responsibility for managing another member of the group, and we will discuss the circumstances of that day with the guide. The additional guide you mention was Andrea, who joins the group for the Italian section due to local guiding requirements. His presence is a planned part of the itinerary and wasn’t an additional guide brought in because of differing walking speeds within the group. Regarding vehicle support, our Tour du Mont Blanc is a point-to-point trek and the advertised itinerary includes walking between accommodation, villages and the trail. Walking through the towns and villages along the route is therefore a normal part of the journey. We do include private vehicle transfers at specific points where we believe they improve the overall trekking experience. On the day from Les Chapieux to Courmayeur, for example, our private minibus transfers the group to Ville des Glaciers, removing approximately 4 km of road walking, and later collects the group at La Visaille for the transfer into Courmayeur. Without these transfers, this would be a day of over 30 km with approximately 2,000 m of ascent and descent. These transfers form part of our advertised itinerary and have been deliberately included where we feel they enhance the trek. We don’t, however, provide a support vehicle to collect the group at the end of each day’s walking, as this isn’t the style of Tour du Mont Blanc that we offer. Morning departure times also have to work around the breakfast arrangements at each accommodation. We normally depart approximately one hour after breakfast begins, giving everyone sufficient time to eat and prepare for the day. On some mornings the group will also collect provisions for their picnic before continuing onto the trail. This is a normal part of the daily routine on a point-to-point trek. We appreciate that someone who personally prefers a very early, immediate start may find this frustrating, but on a guided group departure we have to consider the needs of the group collectively. It sounds as though your previous trekking experiences may have followed a different model, with multiple guides, daily vehicle support and more opportunity for individuals to walk at their own pace. Our advertised Tour du Mont Blanc is deliberately a small-group, point-to-point trekking experience, with the group travelling through the mountains together under the leadership of their guide. We’re sorry that this difference in expectations affected your enjoyment of the trek, but thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and for highlighting the many aspects of your trip that worked well.
