Sorry to hear you was not happy with the item there is a thin layer of oil on the item which is stated in the item description

'Please note this item is cast from iron with a thin layer of lacquer and oil. This item will age over time, if you would like to slow this process you can do so by ensuring the thin layer of oil is maintained.'

In regards to the rusty rod, this shouldn't be like that. If you would like to get in touch with us and send us a picture of the rusty part to support@castinstyle.co.uk we can look at replacing this for you.
