Thank you for your feedback, and I’m sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the condition of the lake in front of your caravan. The fishing swims are dotted around the lake, and we cut the lake banks once a year. This is intentional, as it allows us to maintain buffer zones along the lake edges, which provide a natural filtration system and help maintain the natural habitat for the wildlife. The planting around the lakes includes yellow flag iris, bullrush and various water lilies. These plants should only be cut at certain times of the year to ensure we protect the lake’s natural ecosystem. There are also underwater plants that play an important role in maintaining the necessary oxygen levels and providing a natural habitat for mussels, snails, bloodworm, larvae and other aquatic life. The underwater plants generally grow on a seven-year cycle and are cut using a weed boat when necessary. At present, this is not required for this particular lake. We are aware that Heron Lake and one of the Mallard lakes currently have some weed growth. This is largely due to the prolonged hot weather, shallow depth and lower water levels we have experienced. I’m unsure which area of the park you were fishing from, but if you were staying on Kingfisher Lake, this should not normally present a problem for an angler, as there are suitable fishing areas available around the lake. We do appreciate that guests who specifically pay for a lakeside caravan may have particular expectations regarding fishing access, and we are sorry that on this occasion your experience did not meet those expectations.
