Thank you very much for this thorough and thought-out feedback, some of which I'll forward to my colleagues and some of which I'm sure prospective walkers will want to consider as they book their walk. Which direction to walk Hadrian's Wall is a bit of a contentious topic! Some will argue that east-to-west is right because you get that nice progression from the city out into the hills and the Roman ruins - west-to-east is a bit more "and this is how we replaced the Roman Empire - with Newcastle" but you're absolutely right that the wind direction is generally much kinder. There's also the placement of the sun to consider as it crosses east to west with or against you. We're ecstatic to hear your walk was one of your best-ever travel experiences, anyway, and really appreciate you taking the time to write this review.

Drat, that's a shame about the weather - we're glad it was better for part of your walk, at least! The choice of map to provide is always a difficult balance between accuracy and carriability, for lack of a better word, as the Dales Way does span a large number of OS sheets (more than five!) which can be problematic, but we definitely appreciate that they're by far the nicest way to navigate. Coastal erosion is a huge part of these seaside routes, both providing and taking away those stunning cliffsides, and we're hopeful the ongoing England Coast Path project continues to improve those necessary diversions.
