The filter included with this tank is a basic built-in tray unit intended for light stocking, so if you're keeping a fuller or more heavily stocked aquarium we'd always recommend investing in a good-quality external filter, which will give you far better filtration and reliability. With the built-in trays, it's also worth double-checking that everything is seated correctly and the flow isn't being obstructed, as that's usually what's behind any water escaping rather than the unit itself. These work best under specific conditions — they're most effective placed in the tank overnight with the lights off, and snails are far more likely to enter if they're not already well fed, so cutting back on feeding for a day beforehand can make a real difference. Fresh bait and giving it a few nights rather than one also tends to improve the catch rate considerably. It may be worth another try with these in mind before writing it off.
