Response on behalf of the Owner; Your subjective and non-specific view of décor and furniture is not apparently shared by many other guests who have posted reviews on the site and in our guest book. You would have seen the décor and furnishings online before booking, as can all potential guests. The house is graded 4 stars in accordance with the Visit Britain guidelines.
Location is also a subjective issue, but many other guests have provided very positive feedback on the house’s setting. Again, this could have been researched in advance and if you knew of better locations booked a property accordingly.
There is no wood burner advertised in the property details. There is a wood burner in the dining room: however, it is clearly marked as not being in use. Therefore to claim it “doesn’t work” is misleading. The house is fully centrally heated (a new all electric boiler was installed in December 2014) and there is an open fire in the living room which guests enjoy using.
We only found out that the satellite was not working because you were late vacating the house and mentioned it to our caretaker when she arrived to prepare for the next guests. It gets very windy in Skye and the satellite can be blown out of alignment. It is easily fixed, but we can only do this if we are told about it. It was repaired the following Tuesday. There is a Freeview television in the house and the aerial it uses can be deployed with either of the two TVs so you were not deprived of television viewing.
You also reported as you left that the washing machine had not been working but that you had fixed it yourself by clearing a filter. The comment that it was broken is therefore somewhat disingenuous and misleading.
We encourage guests to let us know at once if there are problems at the house so that they or future guests are not inconvenienced. We try and get repairs done within a week, which is usually possible, even though the logistics on Skye do not always make it easy.
