Yes, this product (the Mini Cutter) has the Auto-Retractable Slider Button which you must hold during use in order to have the blade extended. It's a safety feature to make sure you never leave the blade open and accidentally put the product back in your pocket with the blade out! The majority of our business is Business to Business for Industrial Safety and many of our customers only permit these "auto-retractable" slider buttons on their facilities. We do find that consumers prefer the manual slider buttons which you can see on our 10400 Box Cutter and our 10513 Pen Cutter -- Thank you! // TEAM SLICE //

Thanks you for this comment - the Precision Cutter is designed for thinner paper -- may we ask how thick the paper is you're cutting? Also, it's important you hold it with the green dot (on the housing of the blade) UP (facing you) - this insures the cutting edge of the blade is facing the paper -- can you please try that? Also, please watch this video on the Precision Cutter that shows how to use it and it's intended use ... and if you feel it's not a good fit for your application we would happily refund your purchase as we want you to be a satisfied customer!
