Thank you for your feedback and I’m sorry that you were not satisfied with your check. We have investigated the matter you raised directly with the Association of British Insurers who maintain the database of total loss vehicles. They have no record of this vehicle ever having been declared a total loss by a UK insurer.
It is possible that the mechanic you spoke with was mistaken, and that the vehicle may have been involved in a minor accident, but at no stage was the severity of the accident sufficient to lead to an insurance total loss. There is no database of minor accidents and therefore we would not have been able to alert you to such an incident.
