I'm pleased the service was initially painless, and that your son enjoyed watching the vehicle operate.
To clarify the situation - In all instances of accidental damage, we try to provide a remedy within 48 hours of being notified of the incident - in this case the driver failed to identify any damage to the drain cover at the time of collection. When you kindly made us aware, we arranged an external contractor to replace the cover at no expense to yourself. However, they failed to show without notifying us. Consequently, when you kindly made us aware that the damage had not been remedied, we made alternative arrangements and the drain cover was replaced the same day.
As you point out, it's fair to say communication could have been much better on our behalf and for that we are very sorry.
I agree the discretionary discount is not an appropriate 'apology' - I have posted something to you today which I feel is more fitting.
