OK now that I have returned from both trips I booked with you I feel I can let you know exactly what happened. With reference to our booking to Tenerife I WAS lied to by your staff, who booked our return flight on the wrong date (in October instead of August). She then told me that rectifying the mistake would have to come out of her personal wage and that it would probably cost around £600. You can check your call recordings if you wish. Your operative used this method to coerce us into agreeing to the cheapest alternative flight which meant cutting our holiday short. We have the evidence from the airline that an extra payment of just £172 was made by you to change our 4 flights to the time that was most inconvenient to us, while there were seats available on our preferred flight back that would have cost you £392 extra. The operative went away to check on these flights and when we next spoke she clearly told us the flights we wanted were unavailable. We asked for some compensation, and were told that we were not eligible if the airline changes a flight booking to within 24hrs of the original. In this case the airline did not change the flight, your operative got it wrong, and we lost out on the last day of our holiday. I still feel we are entitled to some sort of compensation for that. Regretfully I booked two breaks with you, and we had problems with 3 of the 4 flights booked. In addition to the issue described above, 2 of the flights were booked incorrectly. I received confirmations from you for these flights, only to find when I double checked with the airlines that you had booked entirely different flights altogether!! Luckily on both occasions the flight times suited us better so nothing was said but had I not been vigilant in checking I would have arrived at the airport for one of the flights with my family to find our flight had already gone as it was booked for 3hrs before our confirmed flight time. I am aware that airlines do change flights sometimes and that this may have been the case, but I was not informed of any change. I did receive an email asking me to get in touch with Holiday Gems, but getting through on the after sales number is a joke and I was left on hold for far too long, all the time paying for the call at 10p per minute. I summary, I would urge anyone to avoid Holiday Gems, the amount of time and energy you spend chasing and checking, you may as well just book the components of your holiday separately yourself, it would be less stressful. Holiday Gems is a joke of a company and do not care about the consumer. If you pay peanuts, expect monkeys.
