Tate An atmospheric wall calendar showcasing the expressive and elemental art of J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851). Often called ‘the painter of light’, Turner’s pioneering paintings also focused on water and the effect of sun, wind and fog as recurring subject matter. Reproducing 12 British and European seascapes capturing the sea in all its moods, drawn from Tate Britain’s superlative collection of Turners. Includes 'The Lighthouse at Marseilles from the sea', c.1828; 'Folkestone from the Sea', c.1822-24; 'A Ship Aground, Yarmouth', c.1827-28; 'The Sun of Venice Going to Sea', 1843; and 'Snow Storm - Steam-Boat off a Harbour's Mouth', 1842. Mixing colourful paintings and studies, details include fishing boats, grand sailing ships and the new power of steam on ocean-going vessels. Dramatic and tranquil, enjoy a year of masterly and evocative paintings.
