Co Lindsay Chalmers sądzi o Flexitreks:

The pre tour service left a lot to be desired. No pre tour information other than the itinerary was made available. We did not receive any maps or made aware of what materials would be given to us...

Oh dear, sorry to read this Lindsay. Our website does make it clear that maps and route notes are provided. Additionally, your holiday documentation, sent to you 5 weeks prior to your trip, confirmed that the maps and route notes would be waiting for you at the reception desk of your first hotel.

Glad you really enjoyed the route Lindsay but sorry to hear you were not so impressed with other elements of the trip. Most of our customers are very pleased with the quality of bikes provided on our Danube routes so this is rather unusual for us. Rest assured I have fed your comments back to our local supplier on this subject. Accommodation options in and around Mosonmagyarovar are rather limited but we are working to find a better solution for this overnight. We will also ensure that future welcome meetings cover the whole route all the way to Budapest.

Great bike/boat trips

Our preferred date wasn't available, but Flexitreks found us an alternative and booked it provisionally while we made up our minds. Ally at Flexitreks is always very helpful.

Thank you for the comprehensive review Annette and sorry to read about the problems with the bike. The bikes are usually maintained well but it sounds like this one slipped through the net somehow. It's always a good idea to give the bikes a good once over when you take delivery of them so that any niggles like this can be sorted before setting off.

Thanks Annette - the GPX files are winning over everyone and onceused to using them, it's hard to consider going back to maps (although it's nice to know these are always provided as a back-up). Hotel selection is often linked to good quality properties that can also offer adequate, safe overnight storage for the bikes. The property in Schuddebeurs is one such property and from there it's only a 10 minute bike ride, along the cycle path, back into Zierikzee where there are many places to eat.

Thanks for the useful feedback James. While the first hotel you stayed in did have air conditioning, it's true the others didn't. In this part of Germany AC is quite rare in the smaller traditional properties as the weather isn't often that hot, Like the UK, Germany had a particularly hot summer this year and many places saw record temperatures.

Your recommendations regarding the map design are very valid and I have passed these on to our local supplier.

It's true that this stretch of the Danube is not quite as pretty as the section between Passau and Vienna but we're glad you found the overnight stops interesting.
