I've had a look at what happened and it appears that after purchasing your policy you used our online tool to review your pre-existing medical conditions, using the form you confirmed you had additional pre-existing medical conditions you'd forgotten to tell us about at the point of purchase. The online system provided you a quote to update your policy to include the conditions you'd forgotten to tell us about at the point of purchase, or the option to cancel your policy with a full refund if you'd prefer. The system provides you with up to 7 days to make this choice. You then selected, about 20 minutes later, the option to cancel your policy with a full refund. We're sorry that you felt that you wern't given the oppertunity to speak to our customer service team. If you have any feedback on how we could have made it clearer that you could do so within the 7 day window to make your choice that would be appreciated, so we can make it clearer for future customers.

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear you are unhappy with the cost of adding your medical condition. The reason for the charge was not specifically the medical condition itself but the loss of the 26.5% discount you'd originally received for having no declarable pre-existing medical conditions. There are several hundred conditions that result solely in the loss of that discount, medium and high risk conditions then carry a further premium.The discount we give for having no pre-existing medical conditions is based on the historic data we hold showing that on average people with no pre-existing medical conditions are less likely to need to cancel or cut short their trip do to a medical issue, or need medical treatment while abroad. We were unable to escalate your complaint as the charge made was only the difference between the premium you had been charged and the premium you would have been told if you'd provided this information at the point of renewal, and the addition premium is based on the additional risk for your updated profile. No surcharge or administration fee was charged for the change in circumstances. I'd also like to note that our policies do not require declaration of the common cold ('sniffles') as you wouldn't receive prescription medication for this. You were required to declare your chest infection as it required prescribed medication from a doctor in the last 12 months. If you don't have any further prescribed medication in the coming 12 months then the discount will be reinstated at your next renewal.
