We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your consultation. We are not able to offer shockwave to patients where it’s contraindicated in our clinical opinion. We stand by the clinical reasoning of our Physiotherapist - he
reviewed your clinical investigations and called you in advance without charge to have a verbal assessment. He then assessed you face to face using ultrasound imaging and objective assessment to further assess your suitability for shockwave therapy. Unfortunately, David made a clinical decision based on these assessments that your injury would not benefit from shockwave therapy. We understand that people are under financial constraints in the current climate so you were charged for a single consultation - we did not charge for the phone consultation or the additional ultrasound imaging which is not standard in a Physiotherapy assessment.
You were advised that having shockwave will not help your condition and instead you were provided with a rehabilitation plan. Our philosophy is to thoroughly assess a condition and make decisions on a patients care based on evidence and provide treatment that is evidence-based. We understand that it can be frustrating when you are faced with a challenging injury, however, we have to adhere to our professional guidelines. I would advise you to check the NICE guidelines on shockwave therapy that govern our clinical decisions.
David offered you a free email follow up to check on your progress as he would like to review you again. If you would like to discuss your rehab with David or one of our other clinicians we would be happy to do that. We note you have viewed your rehabilitation plan multiple times and we hope you are following the plan - these things take time and we hope you persevere with your rehab. We would be happy to discuss how this should be progressed in the future as we do want to help you with your recovery. All the best, and again we are sorry that we could not provide you with the treatment you requested.
