People are often told not to handle young seedlings as a foolproof way to prevent accidental damage, and that advice definitely comes from a good place. However, you can absolutely handle seedlings safely, as long as you’re very gentle and mindful with them. We’ve been using this method for years and have always found it works perfectly well because we’re very careful and delicate when handling them. It’s all about supporting them properly and avoiding squeezing or bending the stems. Gardening advice can sometimes be given as a blanket “don’t do this” to help beginners avoid mishaps, but with a little care and confidence, seedlings are more resilient than people think.
