We are sorry that you found the tour disappointing, Louis. The evidence for Battle of Teutoburg Forest on site is archaeological and again has to be reconstructed to some degree. The only area of the battle where it can be definitely identified is the area displayed next to the museum. Beyond this the land is not accessible and interpretation would be speculative. Also, of course, the landscape has been massively altered in the last 2,000 years.... the great bog that formerly existed is drained and canalised. Imagination is needed to perhaps a greater extent than on more recent battle sites.The archaeology throughout consisted of soil changes and naturally is not visible, so on all sites we are looking at interpretative reconstructions of structures on the original sites. I always take pains to ensure I say this repeatedly during the tour.

We do acknowledge your concerns regarding the coach and onboard facilities. This was not in line with the standards we expect from suppliers used on our tours, and we were in contact with the coach company during the tour about the situation. We have also followed this up with them since. Regarding the amount of time spent travelling, the tour was designed to follow the 1796–97 campaign in chronological order as closely as possible. Given the geography of the campaign, this inevitably involved covering a considerable amount of ground by coach. This tour was advertised as a Level 2 tour, our standard tour type, which can involve walking along country tracks and up slopes to reach vantage points, with distances of up to a few miles a day and occasionally up to six miles. The average age of our clients is over 50, and we try to make this apparent through the group photographs and presentation of our tours on the website. With regard to the stop near the Lidl car park, this is not our normal choice of location for discussing a battlefield, and we understand why you found the setting disappointing. We can only assume the guide considered it the most suitable and/or safest available place to stop at that point in the itinerary. On the hotel arrangements, we do reserve the right to alter hotel locations where necessary. In this instance, the move from Turin to Bra was made in what we believed to be the best interests of the group and the logistics of the tour. We also felt the historic character of the hotel in Bra was in keeping with the nature of the tour. We are also sorry to hear that the dining arrangements did not always meet your expectations.
