The chance is that an unqualified, pressurised US car rental salesperson with no knowledge of your UK insurance told you this was inadequate when truthfully they had no idea and they have targets to meet. We sell a Car Hire Excess Reimbursement Insurance. We cover this in our FAQs and our Policy Wording - you remain liable for the excess and reclaim the excess deducted from us (and CDW if you have paid the appropriate premium for Canada and the US). We will be discussing this further, we are aware of over 30 abbreviations used by hire car companies to describe liabilities. The abbreviations vary from hire car company to hire car company and depend upon which country you are in. Not all US hire car companies use the term ‘LDW’. Whilst we will consider a guide, it may not be possible to find every abbreviation from around the world. Furthermore, one hire car company’s definition may be different to that of another’s. We strongly recommend that everyone familiarises themselves with their rental agreement and their exposure to liabilities before collecting the hire car in order to ensure that our Excess Reimbursement (and CDW if an additional premium is paid for Canada or the US) meets your needs.
