All worked well and my booking was successful, but it does rather defeat the idea of an online booking system that I had to wait for Helpful Holidays to phone me back to confirm/take payment.

We appreciate that sometimes you would rather go ahead and book the holiday straight away and that it can be slightly inconvenient. With so many properties, we unfortunately couldn't possibly hold all the necessary information on our website or in our brochure. It's important, therefore, that a member of our team casts an eye over the booking to protect holiday makers and property owners from errors. This can prevent, for example, a party with young children being booked somewhere unsuitable for them.
Once the booking has been checked, then payment can be made over the telephone as you say, via cheque, or online via an email link we can send you. The online booking does reserve those dates for you, so that no one else can swoop in to book the holiday you wanted.
I hope it's not been too inconvenient and that you enjoy your holiday very much.
