Privet is a semi-evergreen, which means the plants may lose some or all their leaves during a very chilly winter. Your new plants will knit together to form a beautiful dense hedge. They sometimes produce little white flowers in spring, and these will attract pollinating insects, and the dark berries that push through in autumn will feed hungry birds. The leaves on all your Beech will have turned brown for autumn/winter 🍁 as the plants are dormant for the winter. The plants will hold onto the leaves and then in spring new leaves will push through. Butterflies and bees are frequent spring visitors and from autumn onwards the red, shiny haws are a good food source for thrushes, blackbirds, blue tits and yellowhammers.
