It works beautifully when held several inches away from the object, it doesn't work if held too close, that's just the way lenses work. The magnification and working distance is explained in the item description, click on the tab for TECHNICAL information.
The customer should have contacted us for advice. And if he still didn't like the item, he could have returned it and got a refund (or tried another magnifier).
