Thank-you for the feedback, and we can understand the frustration that costs of all manufactured goods have increased over the last few months. In terms of the mesh you have ordered from us, I can see that the price of the 1.2m x 5m roll of 13mm x 13mm 16 gauge stainless steel welded mesh has increased around 6% since 2018. The other roll ordered, 1.8m x 12.5m 25mm x 25mm hole 16 gauge mesh, was a new product to us this year produced by a European manufacturer. Whilst a European made mesh will typically cost more than a similar Chinese made material, the price of this product has increased around 28% in the last few weeks due to unavoidable cost price increases which we have done our very best to absorb as much as we can. Although there are a number of factors involved in the cost increases, the reasons largely come down to the unprecedented increase in shipping costs, a reduction in worldwide manufacturing capacity, large increases in the costs of raw materials, and a huge surge in consumer demand. By way of example, the costs of shipping have more than quadrupled during the course of the pandemic. Partly, this is down to shipping containers being located in the wrong locations for the supply chain, but also it is due to the increased Covid-19 restrictions and testing procedures at ports. This has led to backlogs of shipping containers, and shippers reducing the number of containers loaded onto their vessels due to the additional time required to unload the freight. I would like to reassure you that we only pass costs onto our customers where absolutely necessary, and that increased costs is a problem faced by all retailers of manufactured goods at this time. Unfortunately, due to the global fallout from the pandemic, this is not a problem we can resolve by sourcing products from alternative suppliers (also, using unproven suppliers would carry an even greater risk to the quality of products that we supply).
