Unfortunately our couriers do not permit us to ship dual use or military classified commodities on our account as they could be used for non personal use. For shipping this type of product we would need a different kind of export licence for shipping especially with goods going outside the UK. I know this is disappointing and please be assured we are listening to you and reading your comments however we need to follow the advice of our couriers and what we are permitted to ship on our account with them. Furthermore, now that the UK has left the customs union, we are now classed as a third country and with the amount of dual use classified items arriving to us for our customers' being considerably low overall we do not yet feel it would be beneficial for us to apply for the additional required export license needed for shipping dual use items. We apologize for any inconveninece this may cause you and, going forward, we would advise for you to contact our customer experience team to check if any goods would be classified as military or non personal use prior to purchasing to avoid this issue happening again. Further information on our policies and procedures regarding dual use products can be found from the FAQ's section on our website and terms of trade. I have checked your return to sender shipment and I cannot see that an agent had offered to ship your dual use items to your requested UK address free of charge, however, as a one time service gesture I have arranged for your UK shipping costs to be reimbursed to you as a gesture of goodwill. Please note that all of our shipping rates are reviewed each year, with each of the courier services, to make them as cost effective as possible based on the volume of packages that we receive. I can see that you chose to send your package with DHL Express service, based on the greater chargeable weight of your package for shipping which, had been based on the volumetric weight of the package (size of the package) rather than the actual weight of the goods. If you had chosen to submit a combine and repack request for your package, containing the pair of trainers, it may have been possible for our repack team to reduce the original dimensions of the box containing the pair of trainers or simply allocated the contents to a smaller box. However, please note that, it is more difficult to fully reduce the overall chargeable weight or volume of packages containing shoes if the original shoes boxes are to be retained. Shoe boxes can cause a lot of unnecessary excess space within a package and does mean that the overall size of package that is containing shoes in shoe boxes cannot always be successfully reduced. Volumetric Weight, sometimes referred to as dimensional weight, is a measure used by couriers like DHL and UPS to set the price of shipping items which are large in volume but relatively light in weight. In a case like this, Volumetric Weight is what determined the price of the shipping service. Volumetric Weight is calculated differently by service. Combine and repacking may be a better option dependent on the size of the packaging and if there is a lot of room for it to be decreased as this will mean the volumetric weight has been reduced. Where the Chargeable Weight has been determined by the Volumetric Weight it is a good idea to combine and repack your items into fewer or smaller packages to reduce costs and eliminate the risk of individual boxes going missing. We do provide information to assist you in making this decision. when you select 'Combine and Repack' option from your account. Please be aware that it is a service that you are paying for through our company as well as shipping. I can see that you chose to send your package with DHL Economy service, to your address in France, based on the greater chargeable weight of your optimised package for shipping which, had been based on the volumetric weight of the package (size of the package) rather than the actual weight of the goods. I can see that you had chosen to submit a combine and repack request for your 2 original John Lewis packages, containing the bedding sets and towels. I have calculated that our repack team managed to reduce the overall chargeable weight of your goods, as one piece, by 14 kg, which immediately lowered your final courier shipping service price by £19.70.
