We can assure you that nettles and thistles are not in our seed mix and we apologise that these have grown in your turf. As our turf fields are outdoors, weed seeds like nettles and thistles can unfortunately be blown into the growing turf and even the soil during cultivation. Due to us not using harmful chemicals in our turf growing, this can allow the unwanted nettle seeds to settle in the soil. The patchiness can come from deeper-rooted species that have been cut shorter during harvesting. These can grow back but take longer, which allows rogue nettle seeds to establish faster. The best way to get rid of the nettles, without harming the grasses and flowers, is either to pull them out from the turf, while wearing gloves, or with regular mowing which removes the nettle leaves, killing off the roots.
