Staff very friendly and helpful, and there is a flexible ticketing policy (ie if you have booked for one (cheap-rate) ticket, but find you need to travel at a different time, the policy seems to be...
We do try to offer value for money by keeping prices as low as possible and usually fares only rise annually in line with RPI. Vehicle fares are nearly always cheaper if booked well in advance (2014 sailings are available now at this years lead-in prices) and quieter sailings will be cheaper than travelling at peak times. My Red Funnel members (it's free to join) also benefit from a range of offers throughout the year.
Red Funnel's routes don't receive any subsidy despite our commitment to running lifeline sailings which barely break-even and unlike the cross-Channel operators there is also limited opportunity to subsidise the ticket price from spend onboard which is a major revenue stream for these companies. Unfortunately we don't benefit either from the economies of scale that they do simply because the costs of running smaller ships (crew, fuel, maintenance, regulatory) are disproportionate. What's more, unlike the competition, Red Funnel's entire fleet has used low-sulphur fuel since the mid 90's which is much much kinder to the environment but considerably more expensive than the more polluting intermediate or heavy fuels. We believe this is a price worth paying but it does have a big impact on our costs.
The cost of travel is always an emotive subject, but if you take the Red Jet £8.60 off-peak day return passenger fare it works out at just £0.39 per mile or £0.17 per minute which we believe compares favourably with other short-sea fares and the wider travel industry - a recent taxi journey cost £1.00 per minute by way of comparison.

however information publicly available showed that in 2012 you are doing very well, making a very healthy profit, with overall costs reducing. The strategy of the directors is to continue to increase profits, its in your annual report,so I stand by my overall assessment that red funnel is providing me with a poor service, simply on price, I have no cause to fault the operational service
It is too expensive. But I'm sure you may have heard that before! I'm told, per mile travelled, the IOW ferries are the most expensive in the world!!
Other than that, the crossing staff and service...

Thank you for the feedback. We do try to offer year round value for money vehicle fares and savings can be found if you can book as far ahead as possible to get the lead-in rates (fares rise in small increments as space on each sailing becomes booked).
Any 2014 bookings made before the end of 2013 will be charged at this years prices and there's a good chance of getting the lowest fare. In addition, it is worth signing-up to receive our email newsletters at www.myredfunnel.co.uk which contain the latest offers.
If travelling fairly frequently, a Travel Card is worth considering as it gives a guaranteed discount of up to 20%.
Overpriced ticket price. Very overpriced food & drink.

Changes to our food & beverage menu and pricing are planned for next year.
I am a very frequent vehicle traveller with R F and spend over £1000 PA as I have elderly relatives on the IoW. The loading process very annoying as I always get to the embarkation area in good time...

Thanks for the feedback. Travel Card holders can get priority loading at a reduced price which can be selected when booking online or by phone. Your experience of turning up early and loading last will be fed back to the Ops team as this is not normal practise. In the meantime, thank you for travelling with us.
The service is ok as long as it runs on time which car ferry normaly does, however the red jet are always running late and cause me problems with work.
I think that all the ferris are extremely over...
