It's possible there was only room on the top deck for a short car and this is why you didn't manage to get on the earlier sailing. If you know the exact height of your car with its roof box it's worth mentioning this to staff at check-in so you get placed in the correct lane. Although it sounds as though your daughter let her views known we would like to thank you for travelling with us.
