Re-usable bag of wooden blocks with rounded edges for indoor or outdoor play: building and games. Good quality for a reasonable price.

Smooth writing surface, good quality paper. I keep one of these on my desk at all times to keep track of to-dos. The perforated strip is a nice touch if I need to take a page out.

Sometimes you just want well-made, simple basics like these. Good size for the under 5s.
