Cottages4you on behalf of the owner: Thank you for choosing May House for your Christmas celebrations. We are glad you enjoyed the area and that Scotland did not disappoint as a destination for Christmas…in fact The East Neuk of Scotland is Scotland’s best kept secret – I am sure you would agree. Again we were delighted that you enjoyed the Wines; Stollen and Shortbread which “Father Christmas” left for you and your family. I am sorry that you found the kitchen limited in terms of counter space– it is a new, well -designed kitchen for which we have always enjoyed compliments from our guests..as it is so well laid out and easy to keep clean. As you say it is well organised – plus the full complement of stylish serving dishes etc. I had believed everything was in place but was disappointed that the muffin tray was missing – although I agree with you not many visitors make their own Mince Pies…so for that omission I can only apologise. There is however ample cupboard space which we have organised for the most convenient use for our guests – along with a Fridge/ Freezer/ Microwave and Dishwasher within the kitchen…guests have always appreciated that we have organised it to make it easy for families and always leave plenty of dried goods and so forth …i.e. Tea; Coffee; White Sugar; Brown Sugar; Green Tea; Herbal Tea; Salt and Pepper Mills; Condiments; etc…not to mention the Wine that is always left as a welcome for guests. I am glad you found the bedroom wardrobes spacious however; the area you found messy was in the master where we keep the Travel Cot and the High chair for families with small children. In fact, the only personal items (as you mentioned); in the house, was our Christmas Tree; Garlands; Christmas Crackers; Gifts and decorations which we brought from home to decorate the house for you – which I am glad you appreciated. We have always strived to make sure it does not feel like someone else’s home and have received complements from other guests who have complemented us on having a “boutique hotel” feel to the property…which we work hard to maintain it as such and have had no other comments similar to yours. My overwhelming concern following your stay (I wished you had mentioned it when we chatted to you as you left); is the bed and the bedroom. The bed is a standard hotel double bed; with a Posturline 1100 mattress…which is renewed…it is designed to prevent “roll-together” and was chosen as it is designed to be supportive but not hard. Mattresses are such a personal thing and your sore back and neck was such a shame…and I am sorry that this was your experience; as it is the single and only negative comment in all the years we have been providing accommodation. We have many families with babies who visit and when the Travel Cot is up (which we provide) we wanted to make sure that this did not compromise the comfort of the parents’ visiting May House. I was very concerned and indeed, so sorry that you chose to sleep on the floor on sofa cushions and not one of the spare beds upstairs which was available. I am pleased to say that WiFi and BT MyView has been installed since your visit – it had been organised before Christmas however; the engineers could not promise that it would be ready by Christmas which is why we did not put it on our Cottages4you advert – this has now been updated to reflect Broadband and so forth.
