Yew is a slow growing evergreen conifer that produces red berries during the autumn that will attract hungry birds. And Sea Buckthorn is deciduous so they will lose their leaves in autumn. In spring new silvery foliage will push through. They will also produce masses of edible orange berries that are rich in vitamin C. In autumn the leaves turn brown when the plants become dormant for the winter. The plants hold onto these leaves and in spring lots of healthy leaves push through again.
