Good afternoon -- We have spoken with Ched the engineer who made the visit to your property. He has confirmed that the whole wooden frame was rotten. The top left was not connected, the top right was connected with just a few shreds of wood. Obviously he had to open the garage door to see inside but at that point the top joist collapsed and fell on him but fortunately it didn't cause injury. Before he left the property he made sure that the joist was propped up and safe so that it wouldn't fall on anyone else. Nobody was on site with him at this point so he was unable to discuss. The door did not fall on him. The builders next door were watching him and confirm that he was messing about with the timber frame for ages before unnecessarily opening the door. I only asked for a quote it did not need the door to be opened. Sheer incompetence. I very much doubt that the spring can now be salvaged and you have left us out of pocket for what could have been a fairly straightforward replacement frame. Also he just scarpered in his van even though I was in the house and he could have confessed to me personally what he had done.
