Thank you for your reply. I have to tell you, however, that while you state that “We can confirm that there is no restriction on how far in advance you can take out a short-term policy on hired instruments”, I can assure you that this is not what is happening in practice.
I first contacted Allianz in October 2017 regarding insurance cover required six weeks later. After much messing about I was finally given a quote for insurance in the e-mail below. But please see the sentence in paragraph two, confirming the two week limit. The final policy no. was 2228039135.

Thank you for your recent telephone call regarding the quote for the concert in November 2017. I wish to advise you that I have received confirmation back from the senior underwriters to match the same premium paid on your previous policy number above at £72.07 (Inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax).
If you wish to take out this cover, kindly send the request back closer to the cover date with the reference number above and we will set you up the policy cover based on the amount of £72.07 (Inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax). Please be aware that we can only set up new policies 14 days prior to the start date.

Last month I again contacted Allianz regarding a new policy for a hired instrument required for February 8-10, 2019. My first call to Allianz in early January was met with the response that you would not offer me a quote, let alone a policy, until a minimum of 14 days before the cover period.
I therefore rang back again on Friday, January 25. Your representative took all the details, gave me a quote, but then said the computer would not let him issue a policy because the date was still too far ahead (two weeks exactly) and to ring back the following Monday. This I did and the policy was issued, although I still had to go through all the quotation information again. Policy no. 2228451801.
I would have thought you have recorded conversations of this and notes on my file..
You will appreciate that I feel most strongly about this matter. It is ridiculous to be forced to arrange insurance on such a short time-scale when much planning goes into orchestral events.
Either your statement of company policy is wrong or is not being implemented. I wish, therefore, to make this matter a formal complaint to Allianz and await your further response.

Helpful to have pamphlet with the instrument
