Thank you for your feedback on the floats. These are made locally and they did indeed once come with tubing inside but the manufacturer stopped using it some time ago and they now come with just the unlined hole.
In fairness to him the floats do seem to still work OK but they certainly do not look as well finished as they did with the tube and you do now need to use a bigger bead to prevent it from jamming in the hole.
