Response on behalf of the owner: We are so sorry you felt this way. As you might understand, the four-star rating is mainly to do with the special location of the property. Driftcombe is a 400 year-old cottage that has been a holiday-home for many years.
Unfortunately your booking came at the end of a busy season. We absolutely agree that it now needs a deep clean, which we always do in the winter months when there are no tenants. With a two-hour turn-around for everything every week, there is limited time for deep cleaning during the season, and our housekeeper does her very best. It is always tidy on arrival, and families really like the toys, books and games that they can use. All the ground floor furniture, crockery and soft furnishings were new this season.
Most of our tenants appreciate the cottage’s warmth and homeliness, and we are very sad if you felt otherwise. We have many guests who come back repeatedly - some have been coming here for over thirty years - and it is the easy-going comforts and natural beauty that they really enjoy.
