Hawthorn is a native, deciduous species, so your plants will lose their leaves during autumn/winter, but will burst back into leaf and will also flower in spring and they will eventually produce berries. Privet is a semi-evergreen, which means the plants may lose some or all their leaves during a very chilly winter. In spring lots of new leaves will push through and in the summer they will produce masses of white flowers that will attract lots of butterflies and bees. Potentilla is a stunning long-flowering shrub. The gorgeous white flowers will last from June all the way to October. They are also extremely hardy and can tolerate all kinds of planting conditions. And Spindle ( Euonymus Europaeus) looks wonderful during autumn with its stunning colours, vibrant pink capsules open-up to reveal bold-coloured orange fruits, and leaves turning from a deep green to a glowing red, and the fruits are often retained well into the winter months.
