I hope your new plants are all in the ground and are settling into their new home. Dog Rose is a hardy, native plant. As it is deciduous it will have lost its leaves over autumn/winter, and in spring you will see lots of healthy green leaves push through and in summer they will produce pink and white flowers that will attract lots of butterflies 🦋 and bees 🐝 and after flowering you will see rosehip fruits appear that will feed lots of hungry birds 🐦. The plants will hold onto the leaves and then in spring new leaves will push through. Hawthorn hedging is wonderful for wildlife, supporting over 150 species of insects and a host of native birds. Butterflies and bees are frequent spring visitors and from autumn onwards the red, shiny haws are a good food source for thrushes, blackbirds, blue tits and yellowhammers. Golden Privet is a semi-evergreen, which means the plants may lose some or all their leaves during a very cold winter. Lots of new leaves will push through again in spring and in summer they will produce creamy/white flowers that will attract lots of butterflies and bees.
