During the spring they produce tiny white flowers that are popular with butterflies and bees and during winter they produce small red berries that hungry birds love. So extra wildlife should hopefully be coming into your garden soon. It is slow growing, so needs little maintenance, its dense form and prickly leaves are a good intruder deterrent, its berries, on pollinated female plants, provide food for native birds throughout the winter and it can be trimmed into a superb formal decorative hedge.
