This elegant, intense Oberemmel Riesling comes from the steep slopes of the Saar valley, where Carolin Willems is the 5th generation of women winemakers. ‘Schiefer’ refers to the slate soils of the area which lend saline minerality to the wine and the red triangle on the label references rare red slate in particular. Characteristically dry ('trocken') with lime and green apple freshness and relatively low alcohol which works wonderfully with buttery, rich dishes especially poultry and fish. Certified organic and vegan. Fifth generation winemaker Carolin Willems (aka 'Mrs Carolin Hofmann') produces this crisp, elegant, minerally Riesling from +30-year-old vines on the steep, slate ridges of the Rosenberg in Oberremmel, neighbouring the renowned Scharzhofberg vineyard. The steep-sided Mosel valley (formerly known as Mosel-Saar-Ruwer) is internationally acclaimed for the production of Riesling wine. Slate-based soils dominate in the middle Mosel, a region which includes the Saar and Ruwer tributaries. Saar: Willems-Willems 'Schiefer' Oberemmel Riesling 2022. Willems-Willems.
