Costières de Nîmes: Château Roubaud Rouge 2023

The red Costières de Nîmes wine from Château Roubaud is made from a blend of roughly-equal parts Syrah, Grenache Noir and Carignan. Bursting with ripe garrigue fruit over earthy tannins and scrubland scents, this crowd-pleasing, chest-thumping red wine is the perfect foil for robust, rustic dishes - cassoulet or pot au feu spring to mind. Situated on the western flank of the fascinating Parc Naturel Régional de Camargue and the Rhône delta – think red rice, black bulls, wild horses and ferocious mosquitoes – Françoise and Guillaume Molinier make excellent Rhône wine blends with a hint of the area's (and the wider Languedoc's) exoticism. Their Château Roubaud red bottling 'Cuvée Plaisir' is adorned by a wonderful Art Deco label and consists of roughly equal parts Grenache Noir, Syrah and Carignan. Briary fruit aromas, rustic spicing and a black olive finish make this wine the ideal pairing for a good daube, cassoulet or heartily-spiced sausage dish with mash or lentils.
