Stellenbosch: Migliarina Chenin Blanc 2023

A rich barrel-fermented South African Chenin Blanc made in small quantities by boutique winemaker Carsten Migliarina. Crisp acidity balances baked Bramley apple, shortbread biscuit and hints of vanilla and confit pineapple. Subtle honey notes on the finish will become more complex and intense with bottle age. Delicious with creamy poultry dishes, soft cheese or spring vegetable risotto. Carsten Migliarina returned to his roots in southern Africa to make wine after a long stint as a sommelier in London. The grapes for this Chenin Blanc come from mature low-yielding vines with an average age of 35 years. Barrel-fermentation gives richness and enhances the stone and tropical fruit flavours to this wine while preserving lovely fresh acidity and giving a lengthy concentrated finish.
