Frédéric Magnien's Marsannay comes from the most northerly AOC in the Côtes de Nuits and is a great introduction to his style. Bright, floral and cherry-scented, it has fresh acidity, a sappy texture and oodles of fruit underlined by a touch of peppery spice and fine-grained tannins. Try this wine with duck, chicken or a mushroom-fricassé. 'Saint-Jacques' sits near the tree-line in the most northerly village of the Côte de Nuits, where the limestone is close to the surface and topsoil is shallow. This forces the 30 to 50 year-old vines to root deep. This limestone gives the wine good structure, rich fleshy fruit and precise tannins which help it age. .
