Well-reviewed (Burghound 91-94; Guide Bettane + Desseauve 16/20), Frédéric Magnien’s Grand Cru Charmes-Chambertin comes from ancient old vines and has the fine bones and structure to age over decades. Certified organic. ‘Charmes’ used to mean old common land or ancient hornbeam woods. Rich in iron, the mineral deposits in the soil were dug out and taken to Langres to be made into knives. This gravelly, marl-dominated climat is said to be home to the oldest, deeply-rooted vines in the commune (planted in 1881).An intense floral and berry bouquet leads to earthy, spicy hedgerow fruit, and significant forest floor notes on the finish. Decant and enjoy with duck with morels around 10 to 15+ years after vintage. Charmes-Chambertin: Frédéric Magnien Grand Cru 2014. Frédéric Magnien. Burgundy Wine > Côte de Nuits Wine. Red Wine
