From plots in the village of Brochon (just north of Gevrey-Chambertin), this Côte de Nuits-Villages wine from Frédéric Magnien is fantastic value. The flavour profile has a little more red cherry fruit than its sibling Marsannay with an expressed minerality, supple mouthfeel and crisp acidity. Planted on dry limestone-clay soils over well-drained gravels, the name of this lieu-dit refers to a cross as it is next to a former monastery or 'Clos' (walled vineyard). The wine has a palate of mellow black plum dark cherry, hints of cinnamon and forest earthiness, bound with smooth fine tannins. Côte de Nuits-Villages: Frédéric Magnien 'Croix Violette' 2022.
