Ladoix: Domaine François Gay & Fils 2020

Based in and around the village of Ladoix-Serrigny in the Côte de Beaune just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, much of the vineyards are the continuation of the slopes of the hill of Corton. The wines tend to be excellent value and are fruit-driven, making them approachable when young. Pascal Gay’s Ladoix is 100% Pinot Noir and has a wealthy of dark berry and cherry fruit, fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Ladoix tends to fly under the radar in appellation terms as parts of the village can use the more well-known Aloxe-Corton, Corton-Charlemagne and Le Corton AOCs or even the 'Côte de Beaune Villages' moniker. Effectively on the border between the Côtes de Nuits and Beaune, these formerly less well-exposed slopes are proving their worth in a succession of warmer vintages, permitting slow and steady ripening – ideal for Pinot Noir.Black cherry and blackberry fruit dominate the palate with sufficient acidity and length to work extremely well with poultry, small game or wild mushrooms.
